Ingredients

For the Casserole
  • 1 8-count package all-beef hot dogs cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 15-ounce cans chili with no beans use your favorite brand
  • 1 8-ounce tube refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese sharp or medium, freshly shredded
  • 1 small yellow onion finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Equipment

  • 1 9x13 inch baking dish
  • 1 Large Mixing Bowl

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the sliced hot dogs, canned chili, chopped onion, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until everything is well combined.
  3. Pour the chili dog mixture into your prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
  4. Unroll the crescent dough and separate it into triangles. Arrange the triangles over the cheese layer, covering the chili mixture as much as possible.
  5. Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheddar cheese over the crescent roll topping.
  6. Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the crescent dough is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  7. Let the Chili Dog Casserole rest for about 5 minutes before serving. This helps it set up, making it easier to scoop and serve.

Notes

Shred Your Own Cheese: For the best, smoothest melt, shred a block of cheese yourself.
Use No-Bean Chili: This creates the most authentic chili dog flavor and a better texture for the casserole.
Let it Rest: Allowing the casserole to sit for a few minutes before serving is key to letting it set properly.
