Ingredients

For the Oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup Rolled Oats Old-fashioned oats, not instant.
  • 1 Medium Apple Diced. Honeycrisp or Gala recommended.
  • 1 cup Milk or Water Any milk (dairy or plant-based) works.
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Ground Nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp Pure Maple Syrup Adjust to your desired sweetness.
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 pinch Salt

Equipment

  • 1 Small saucepan
  • 1 Measuring Cups and Spoons

Method

  1. Wash and dice your apple into small, bite-sized pieces, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch cubes.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, add the rolled oats. Toast them for 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently, until they become fragrant.
  3. Pour in your liquid (milk or water), diced apple, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a simmer.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats are creamy and have absorbed most of the liquid. The apples should be tender.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the maple syrup and vanilla extract. Let it sit for a minute to thicken slightly, then pour into a bowl and add your favorite toppings.
