Ingredients

Naan Components
  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour 500g
  • 2 1/4 tsp Active Dry Yeast 7g
  • 3/4 cup Warm Water 180ml
  • 1/2 cup Greek Yogurt 120g, full-fat preferred
  • 1 tbsp Granulated Sugar 12g
  • 1 1/2 tsp Kosher Salt 9g
  • 2 tbsp Vegetable Oil 30ml
  • 4 tbsp Unsalted Butter 60g, melted
  • 5 cloves Garlic Finely minced
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Cilantro Finely chopped

Equipment

  • 1 Cast Iron Skillet Essential for high-heat charring.
  • 1 Rolling Pin To create the oval shape.
  • 1 Pastry Brush For applying the garlic butter glaze.

Method

Prepare the Dough
  1. Combine warm water (180ml), sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix flour and salt. Add yeast mixture, yogurt, and oil. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 60-90 minutes until doubled.
Shape and Cook
  1. Divide dough into 8 balls. Roll each into an oval shape, 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Heat a dry skillet over medium-high. Cook each naan until large bubbles form and bottom is charred (about 45 seconds). Flip and cook 30 seconds more.
Finish
  1. Stir minced garlic into melted butter. Brush heavily over hot naan and sprinkle with cilantro.

Notes

Use a heavy cast iron pan for best results.
Don't skip the yogurt; it's essential for the soft texture.
